Entre os significados da palavra bite estão mordida, bocado e picada, mas também dá origem a várias expressões. Conheça algumas delas.

É muito usada naquela situação em que você precisa calar a boca antes de falar o que realmente pensa. Também pode significar guardar segredo.

Responder ou falar agressivamente com alguém, quando não há uma boa razão para fazê-lo.

Conformar-se com uma situação desagradável, ou algo doloroso.

Tentar fazer mais do que você é capaz de fazer, subestimar as dificuldades.

Bite the hand that feeds you

Cuspir no prato em que comeu. Causar prejuízo a alguém que te ajudou ou tratou bem.

• Don´t bite the hand that feeds you. You may need that hand one day.
• Não cause prejuízo a quem te ajuda. Você pode precisar daquela pessoa algum dia.

Bite the dust

Bite the dust pode significar cair morto, falhar, ser derrotado ou até parar de funcionar.

• Andy did exceptionally well in all of the tracks events, but he bit the dust in the high jump competition.
• Andy foi muito bem em todos eventos de pista, mas ele foi derrotado na competição no salto em altura.

• A cowboy saying in olden times was: “And another Indian bit the dust.”
